How happy are you at work? Is your current occupation just that — something occupying your time — or are you meant for something more?
A simple way to find the answer is to consider your mood on Sunday nights. How do you feel when you think about the work week ahead? Excited? Anxious? Angry? Depressed?
If Monday morning can’t come soon enough for you, then congratulations. For the rest of us, whatever emotion you feel will urge you to act in some way.
Whenever you feel this emotion is a good time to get “untethered.” Acknowledge your emotion, but don’t let it drive your action. Let your emotion serve as an indicator that you need to make a change. Next, get centered, and examine your options from an objective place of peace.
Here are some things to consider:
What do you love to do? It’s the something that gives you a feeling of joy or fulfillment.
What skills do you wish to utilize? These could be skills you currently possess, or ones you’d like to develop.
What are the most important values to you in your work or workplace? Also consider conditions, environment, location.
What are your unique gifts and talents? What is your contribution to make? How would you like to contribute?
Take your time answering these questions. Gaining clarity can be a process that requires a deeper dive. You may want to consider working with a coach who can help you explore options, identify the right changes for you, and create an action plan to turn your dreams into reality. I draw on both practical and spiritual exercises to help my clients see results. Curious? Let’s talk.
