Although progress is being made fighting the Ebola Virus, the epidemic continues to require an unprecedented global response to stop its spread. Here are 6 charities on the ground in West Africa that could use your support. The list is in alphabetical order, not preference. Each is rated four-stars by Charity Navigator.
Africare supplies personal protective equipment so health workers can prevent transmission, strengthens local health care systems to prevent future outbreaks, and educates local communities on healthy habits.
2. Direct Relief
Direct Relief provides medical assistance to people around the world who have been affected by poverty, natural disasters, and civil unrest. So far, Direct Relief has sent 19 emergency shipments valued at $7 million to Liberia. Additional shipments of essentials including personal protective gear, medicines, and supplies, are on the way.
3. Doctors Without Borders
Doctors Without Borders has been on the Ebola Virus frontlines well before the global community took action. It is no surprise given the nonsectarian organization’s track record. On any given day more than 30,000 doctors, nurses, and other qualified personnel can be found providing medical care around the world.
4. MAP International
At MAP International, every $1 donated provides $60 in medicines and medical supplies to Ebola Virus patients in need.
5. Save the Children
Save the Children is active building Ebola health centers, providing care for orphans, training health workers and providing protective kits and essential medical equipment.
6. Water Missions International
Poor sanitation is a key reason behind the current Ebola Virus epidemic. Water Missions International provides sustainable safe water and sanitation solutions for people in developing countries and disaster areas, including the Ebola Virus epicenter: West Africa.
