Music can be a powerful tonic for life’s ills, and a celebratory companion for its joys. I intend to regularly share some favorite tunes that for one reason or another are in my current rotation. Here are 3 to get us started. The theme of this first batch is work: what it means and the challenge of getting to it.
1. Passenger, “Scare Away the Dark”
This hilarious video and the spot on lyrics explain why I’m thankful to have escaped corporate life and is a great reminder of what life itself is all about. I bet most cubicle dwellers can relate.
2. Sweet Honey in the Rock, “In the Morning When I Rise”
The power in the voices from the legendary a cappella gospel group builds and builds that by the end it’s hard not to get moving, Monday mornings included. What gets you out of bed?
3. Michael Kiwanuka, “Tell Me a Tale”
Does the work you do fit your life purpose? Need inspiration? Tell me a story that I believe / Paint me a picture that I can see, / Give me a touch that I can feel, / Turn me around so I can be, / Everything I was meant to be. Sounds good to me.
